So you’ve watched the F3000 tunnel boats roar across the water and thought, “Could I ever drive one of these?”

The good news: yes you can, even if you don’t own a boat! All you really need is passion, determination and the willingness to learn. If you’re at least 16 years old and over 5’2” in height, the door to professional powerboat racing is already open to you.

Step 1: Start with Driver Training Clinics

At Team Fernandez Racing, we run one-on-one pilot/driver training clinics at either two locations: Port Dickson or a lake in the Klang Valley. These are typically two-day programmes, preferably held during the weekday, designed to give you maximum seat time and build confidence behind the wheel.

During training, you will cover both theory and hands-on driving. Think of it as your passport into the world of tunnel boat racing.

What You’ll Learn:

  1. Boat Basics – understanding engine and propeller dynamics.
  2. Twin-Seater Sessions – start with an instructor right beside you.
  3. Going Solo – graduate into a single-seater with live radio communication from the shore.
  4. Race Craft – driving techniques, rules of competition and essential safety practices.

And yes, safety is our number one priority at every step.

Step 2: Assessment & Next Steps

After your initial two-day clinic, our instructors will assess whether you are ready to race or if further training sessions are needed. The goal isn’t just to teach you how to drive fast – it’s to make sure you can do so safely, confidently and without risk to yourself or others.

Step 3: Race!

Here’s the exciting part: you don’t need to buy your own boat to compete.
We own a fleet of race-ready F3000 tunnel boats, and at least two are available on a race rental basis. This includes the full package:
✅ The boat
✅ All support equipment
✅ A dedicated crew
✅ Expert race-day guidance

Once you have completed training and reached the right level of competency, you will have the opportunity to enter official F3000 race events in Malaysia with full professional backing.
