The Evolution of F3000 Powerboat in Malaysia
F3000 powerboat racing has been part of the Malaysian motorsport scene for over 30 years, with interest peaking around 2010 through early demonstrations and races aimed at introducing and popularising the class.

Significant events include the Formula Future Malaysian National Championship in Putrajaya in July 2010, and the inaugural F3000 Powerboat Race in Putrajaya in May 2011, which featured eight pilots competing in support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports' (KBS) "Himpunan Sejuta Belia" event.

In subsequent years, the sport expanded with the establishment of an annual championship series and increased participation. The KBS F3000 Powerboat Top Gun Championship Series held from 2012 to 2014 featured multiple rounds across various locations, including Melaka, Putrajaya, Muar and Kuala Lumpur. These events attracted both local and international competitors, contributing to the sport's growing popularity.
A notable milestone occurred in March 2013 when 16-year-old Warren Fernandez became the youngest competitor to win a race in the Malaysian International F3000 Powerboat Series at Metropolitan Lake, Kuala Lumpur, highlighting the sport's appeal to younger generations.
The F3000 powerboat racing scene continued to flourish with events like the Negeri Sembilan International F3000 Powerboat Championship in September 2014, held at PD Waterfront in Port Dickson, which saw participation from pilots representing countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Great Britain.
In 2024, the Royal Pahang F3000 Championship attracted over 120,000 spectators over three days, showcasing a blend of local and international talent. The event was graced by Pahang Sultan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Pahang Queen consort, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, marking a significant endorsement of the sport.

Building on that momentum, the 2025 edition of the Royal Pahang F3000 Powerboat Championship saw a diverse set of international pilots from Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Singapore and Finland taking to the waters. The event also marked a milestone with the debut of the first female F3000 driver from Sarawak, adding to the sport’s growing inclusivity. With increasing global interest, strong local support and continued royal patronage, F3000 powerboat racing in Malaysia is not only thriving; it is setting the pace for the region’s motorsport future.
