Growing up by the sea in Melaka, I spent more time in the water than most people spend in school. If it floated, I was on it. If it moved fast, I wanted to race it. From diving to fishing to tinkering with boats that had no business going that fast, I was hooked early - and it only escalated from there. In 1985, I watched the F1 Powerboat World Championship on television, and I was immediately smitten! At that point, I was still racing in the local Runabout Unlimited class, but my big break came when a kind and generous man, Haji Fauzy Hamid, President of Mofaz Group, bought a used F1 tunnel hull and offered me the opportunity to drive it. Not only did he give me the chance to race, but he also fully sponsored my efforts. It was a dream come true, and I felt like I was in seventh heaven. When F1 boats started feeling like rare collector’s items around here, we knew we needed something more practical. That’s how F3000 was born - a class designed to bring the same thrills without requiring a second mortgage. Cheaper, reliable, and still capable of making your heart leap out of your chest. I may be older now, but I still get that same grin every time a boat lifts off the line. This isn’t just a sport - it’s a lifelong love affair.

I was always drawn to the roar of engines and the rush of speed from the time I was a little boy. I still remember watching Top Gun at 10 years old and deciding then and there that I wanted to be a pilot. I didn’t end up in the sky — but I found the next best thing: flying across water at full throttle. I started racing powerboats in 2014, and once I felt that first rush of adrenaline, I was captivated. What began as fascination quickly grew into a deep passion — not just for racing, but for understanding every element of the boat and how to push it to its limits. Today, after more than a decade in the sport, I’m proud to serve as both a F3000 powerboat pilot and Deputy President of Kelab Sukan Powerboat F3000 Malaysia — helping lead the sport I love into its next chapter.

I first fell in love with powerboat racing in 1985, when I entered my very first T1500 race and finished in second place. That lit the fire, and I never looked back. Over the years, I have raced in Mod VP (finishing P3 in 1988 and 1989), won the T1500 Championship from 1991 to 1993, and took the F3000 Championship title in 1996 before retiring from competitive racing in 1997. My official duties began in 1991, and in 2001 I stepped into the role of Officer of the Day (OOD) for an international F3000 race - a position I continue to hold with pride. It’s my job to ensure fairness, safety, and clarity on race day, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. Before all this, I served as an Army Ranger in the 1970s, and today I run a professional boatbuilding and industrial fibreglass workshop. Racing has always been part of who I am - now, I’m here to make sure it stays fast, fair, and unforgettable.

From a young age, I was captivated by my dad’s love for powerboats. I remember him coming home after long days at work, diving into powerboat magazines, and sharing stories about the boats that fascinated him. Watching his passion sparked my own interest, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that world. At 15, I officially joined him in the workshop. It wasn’t just about fixing engines; it was about understanding what makes them perform at their peak. Over the years, I’ve sharpened my knowledge of the intricate mechanics that transform a powerboat hull into a high-speed marvel. Today, I’m proud to carry on my dad’s legacy - not just as a mechanic, but as a Formula 3000 powerboat pilot.

I basically grew up in a cloud of engine fumes and boat polish. Dad’s obsession with powerboat racing was next level - even our games somehow involved imaginary pit stops and flag signals. My older siblings were already tearing up the water while I was still trying to figure out how to not trip over my lifejacket. When I was 13, I finally got my first chance to sit in a real F3000 cockpit - and from that moment on, I was obsessed. Fast forward to today, I race for Fernandez Racing, and I spend every lap chasing one goal: to beat my brother Kane. They say racing runs in our blood. In my case, it’s mostly adrenaline, caffeine, and a desperate need to not come second to Kane!

As the eldest and only daughter, I don't remember a time when I wasn't competing with my brothers for my father's attention, often trying to best them at all the things boys do. Unfortunately, that meant barrel-rolling a powerboat on my very first drive, trying to prove I could outdo the boys. I didn’t - but the story still gets plenty of laughs at family gatherings. These days, I keep my feet firmly on dry land to help manage the club’s digital presence. Turns out I’m much better with a laptop and spreadsheet than a throttle lever!
